Abstract
The study aimed to highlight the significance of local sources as a framework for
reconstructing and documenting Algerian history during the Ottoman period. By doing
so, it illuminates the social, cultural, and economic dimensions specific to Algerian
society in the late Ottoman era (18th and early 19th centuries). This approach seeks to
move away from exclusive reliance on foreign sources ,which have long dominated the
scholarly landscape in the study of Algerian history during this epoch.
The thesis concluded that these various historical records—including travelogues,
personal memoirs ,and other local works—constitute essential primary material. They
provide vital indigenous perspectives for documenting historical events and facts,
effectively filling the gaps and deficiencies found in the existing records of our modern
history.
The subject of local sources in Algerian history during the Ottoman era remains
open for further enrichment and investigation across multiple other facets not covered
in this research.
